To some extent, we have always been cyborgs. Technology shapes us as we shape it, a co-constitutive relationship essential to understanding who we are becoming in an age increasingly mediated by AI.
This talk traces key moments in human history and evolution alongside the technologies that catalysed them. By understanding this persistent relationship, we can ask the questions we truly need: drawing on Neil Postman's insights into technological change, the talk distills five essential inquiries that move beyond what AI is and can do to interrogate who we become in its presence, what essential parts of ourselves we trade for its purported benefits, and how we might live with these technologies responsibly, both collectively and as individuals.
